where have all the good songs and movies gone?

A few days ago I listened to some of script band’s songs from the album Science & Faith, hearing these songs reminded me of the good old days, well I sound like an old lady but seriously if you were born in the early 90s like me, then you’ve definitely seen movies and listened to songs slightly different from today’s times

I’m talking about a period between 1999 to 2015, When I started watching movies and listening to songs I was in my teens, and back then a small number of people knew non-Arabic movies and songs, I was literally the only one in my class who knew every new movie, every new song that came out

they were kind of my escape from not fitting in, as a teen I had views, and interests, way different from other teens around me, which eventually helped me master my English language

While I still enjoy films, it’s the one entertainment that I think will never fade, but the number of good movies back then was a lot to even count, and our watch list usually was crammed with a lot of wonderful never-ending happy hours of movies

They used to be so awe-inspiring, even the ones we disagree on, bursting with meaning, simple, funny, and heart-whelming, with a simply stunning visual aspect

From family movies that showed the funny, loving complex relations it has like Cheaper by the Dozen, home alone, father of the bride, honey I shrunk the kids because I said so, Mrs. Doubtfire, my big fat greek wedding, to the romantic movies that swept you out off your feet like you’ve got mail, fever pitch, letters to Juliet, the wedding planner, the perfect man, somethings gotta give, 27 dresses, the princess diaries, to the most inspiring stories like the shawshank redemption

Oh, just remembering and writing them down brought back so many good memories

a lot of things made old movies stand out for us, the way they made us feel, and think, how they took us on a magnificent journey, let us react to different stories, and allowed us to experience all of these things

We even get used to anticipating the trailer before the movie airs with Don LaFontaine’s epic voice, hearing his voice makes every movie sound magical, and when the movie finally comes out we see great production and almost perfect direction, as the movie kicks off with the portrayal of its main characters accompanied by the sound of old music in the background, And Right from the start, it attracts the audience so to keep watching the rest, it’s almost as if you’re reading a novel

But seriously where did these movies gone?

while the idea of a good movie changes from one person to another Despite this Being true, we can’t deny there’s a qualitative difference between you’ve got mail and nowadays the hating game

So did the industry run out of creativity?

Most directors will tell you that their job is not to entertain others but to tell a story, from the look of it now entertainment, is the basis of it

In recent years, the American film industry faced several factors, like the increased competition of Netflix and other streaming platforms, the impact of the pandemic, and producers only doing it for the money or trying to attract a younger audience

This eventually lead to an endless cycle of sequels, Mission Impossible, James bond, to a slew of superhero films, from spiderman to all the marvel characters, with all due respect to the fans of hero movies, I used to be a fan too.. but I mean come on! And the live-action Disney princess remakes

also, Movies become so predictable that we already know what will happen while entering into a debate about how it will end

but still, the idea of loving old movies returns to a lot of factors, one of them is

time!

Different time calls for different measurement

Have you ever heard that saying, well I guess it is true

Think of it like this, it’s like writing an old letter to someone followed by the anticipation to hear from them, the smell of these old papers, and the sound of the pen as we write, it’s beautiful and dreamy but if it returns, will we act the same as before? I think not

Movies were a part of the world we live in at that time, the way we live, think and believe in things was very different from today, And the industry was still so new and fresh so there were a lot of new things for the audience to see and like

So I think making a movie within the standards of past years is almost impossible

movie dominations

As much as we love movies we can’t deny the great impact on society’s behavior and beliefs, they can change society’s perspective and behaviors and effects how we think how we see the world in shaping slowly and gradually the modern world we live in today affecting both the American people and the worldwide culture

In the twentieth century, the American media greatly dominated the arena and had the largest media arsenal. The researcher and political writer Marwan Samour state that 90% of the American media is owned by only 6 media groups, “as they control what is seen, heard and read by the American citizen and the foreigner together.”

It produces approximately 700 television stations, 6,700 radio stations, 150 daily newspapers, the cinema industry, and about 200 films annually, and all this takes place in the heart of one city, which is (Hollywood)

it is considered to be the oldest film industry, in the sense of being the place where the earliest film studios and production companies emerged

According to data compiled by The Numbers, the United States has produced nearly 23,000 films grossing over $609 billion at the box office.

But in recent years, this has not remained the case, as the film industry has expanded to include other countries such as Korean and Turkish films, as well as Indian films, and people have expanded their choice in movies as well in a short time

This factor determines that the world is open to a wide range of choices, rather than a one-way point of view

However, the American film industry remains and will always be the most watched and waited, but if any of this tells you anything, it tells you that we’re on the verge of new changes.
